Give Back to Your Trails

Singletrack Advocates in Anchorage, Alaska logoDo you know who builds and maintains the trails you race on?
If you aren’t familiar with the Singletrack Advocates (STA) already, you need to be.

Arctic Bicycle Club Mountain Bike Division owes a tremendous amount of gratitude towards STA for providing premium trails for our race courses.  For the future of mountain bike racing in Anchorage, it is critical that our membership (yes, that is you) become active stewards of our local trails and provide support through hands-on participation with STA.

Bear Bells

Don’t forget that Bear Bells are required for racing.black-bear

Bear Bells are more like “awareness bells” that alert wildlife, or other racers that you are approaching. These are mandatory for all racers, but we also suggest using them whenever you are riding on the local single-track trails where traffic is coming from either direction. Hearing an approaching biker can help to reduce collisions.

Bear Bells must be attached to you or your bike and stay on for the entire race.

AV Hill Climb has been cancelled.

Arctic Valley Hill Climb has been cancelled for this season.

Due to the transitions within the MTB Board and Race Director position, our permit for this event was not included with the Road Division’s annual permit request to JBER.

We apologize for any disappointment. Don’t let this stop you from getting out there and climbing hills on your own, or as a group ride!

Meet Your New Race Director!

Members of the Arctic MTB Board with the new Race Director, Adam Robinson (far left).

The Arctic MTB Board is pleased to announce that we have confirmed the 2015 Race Director.  Please help us welcome Adam Robinson to the mountain bike racing community!

Adam is a school teacher by trade, which leaves his summer schedule free to enjoy the great Alaskan outdoors.

We are super stoked that he’s willing to give the Race Director role a try and commit several hours of his free time to us.

Race Director Needed

If you’ve ever participated in an Arctic MTB race, you know how important the Race Director position is.

As you all know, 2014 was Megan Piersma’s last season as race director. So the search is on to fill the Race Director position. Megan’s shoes will probably never be filled, and we thank her graciously for her incredible service over the last few years.
